Montessori-Inspired Learning

Introduction

Conceived and first implemented in the 1900’s by the Italian Physician Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori method to education is a child-centered method to education that incorporates the philosophy that children learn more effectively as active participants in their learning. InnovOak’s approach to Montessori-inspired learning takes the strengths of the method, confidence in learning, encouragement, and purposeful play, and applies them to the Ontario Curriculum standards while utilizing the specially designed materials of the Montessori method to support purposeful learning activities. Laying the foundation of literacy and mathematics, InnovOak students are more knowledgeable and confident in their learning and progression. Guided through purposeful activities by experienced teachers, students develop concentration skills and joyful self-discipline within a framework of order and design. Our program expands the Montessori method to create a strong learning foundation that will serve students from Kindergarten through Grade 12.

What is the Montessori-Inspired Approach

InnovOak’s Montessori inspired approach combines the best ideas, practices, and innovative methods of Montessori and incorporates them with the structure and standards of the Ontario Curriculum to encourage independent thinking and self-management while developing a love of learning that becomes a life-long practice. Using this combination of innovation and structure, Kindergarten students are early readers, writers, and mathematicians while experiencing spontaneous, purposeful activities that make learning fun and purposeful. Our experienced and passionate teachers guide students with individual attention, small group instruction, and designed activities that ensure early success and a strong base of learning. Taking the guess work out of the learning process, our program inspires students with curiosity, self-confidence, and a foundation of learning that will prepare them for early success and lasting achievement.

A Purposeful Environment

Montessori classrooms are bright, vibrant spaces, with priorities on natural light and space. An open design built to encourage movement and curiosity, students are free to interact and collaborate with various activity stations that utilize hands-on, sensory-based materials, specifically designed for establishing and building knowledge in traditional areas of academic learning.

With a newly renovated and meticulously designed kindergarten classroom, InnovOak School has combined and implemented the Montessori philosophy with the strengths and results of the Ontario Curriculum. Providing a blended approach to academic excellence unique to InnovOak School, students thrive within a nurturing environment, while teachers implement individualized learning plans that ensure student's progress exceeds academic expectations.

Deliberately Chosen Materials

Central to the Montessori method of education are specifically designed and developed materials used to inspire children at a young age to learn to read, write, and understand the concepts of math. Learning materials are geared to mastering the foundational skills while purposefully playing and participating in guided activities. InnovOak's Kindergarten program is focused on early reading, writing, and mathematical foundation; we use purposeful Montessori practices and learning materials to give our students a head start at an early age.

Every material and item found in the classroom serves a learning purpose, being deliberately chosen to support our goals. Selected for their learning value, InnovOak school utilizes materials to build foundational mathematics literacy and associated developmental milestones. The InnovOak program recognized the long traditions of the Montessori method, implementing and adapting our program to what our experts know works for InnovOak goals and for our students. Continuously innovative in our approach, the creation of a comprehensive and solid learning program benefits our students; the curious, the shy, and every student that will thrive with the attention of a caring teacher.
