Safeguarding

Student Safety

Student safety is InnovOak School's to priority. Following our student safety protocols, InnovOak School ensures safe arrival and departure from school grounds directly to parents while being monitored by staff.

When supervising students off campus or outside, teachers are required to carry a cell phone and remain in regular contact with the school. Teachers must inform the office when leaving and returning from a trip or activity. All teachers carry parent contact information and medical updates with them when leaving school property.

Responsible Oversight

All employees must pass a Vulnerable Sectors Check (VSC) before having any contact with students in person. Teachers must follow the OCT Standards of Practice and all staff are expected to follow a similar InnovOak Standard. No staff member should be meeting any student in a space that is not considered a public space. InnovOak maintains open doors when dealing with individual students unless there is a confidential meeting in the guidance or main office area and there are other adults in the proximity.

A Secure Building

All doors are locked at all times in accordance with our Locked Door Policy, access to the school can only occur through the main door and after approval by the main office.
The school building is regularly evaluated for safety, supervision, and preparedness. A detailed safety plan is posted in each room with designated emergency exits, designated alternative exits and full safety plans that teachers must follow. A full breakdown of emergency procedures is found in the Safety Appendix.

A Private Space

Student learning spaces are considered private and no recording of student learning will occur by other students. Teachers may record presentations or lessons for assessment and evaluation purposes. No media may be used for publication from within the teaching private space without parents and staff consent.

A Safe Environment

InnovOak School has a zero-tolerance anti-bullying policy in addition to school wide standards of behavior. The full outline of the policy and standards can be found in the student handbook. Staff are expected to observe, report, and address all instances of bullying or inappropriate behavior.
